MONTPELIER, VT: One candidate in the race to be Vermont’s next Lieutenant Governor is bringing a fresh and engaging approach to the office. Today, Senator Zuckerman announced a plan to engage Vermonters and bring their voices and needs into the Statehouse.
“During my 18 years as a Representative and Senator I have seen that many of our greatest accomplishments were initiated in local communities. Vermonters’ ideas, convictions, and perseverance often push those in Montpelier to do the right thing,” said Zuckerman. “I believe there is an opportunity and a need for real leadership to come from the office of Lieutenant Governor in order to help facilitate greater action on behalf of our state.”
“My vision is to create working groups to target specific challenges we face. I will bring community and business members together to identify opportunities to strengthen our rural economy, for example,” said Zuckerman. “When we engage diverse sectors we learn about the approaches that are working and the tangible needs that are keeping some from meeting their full potential. By planning together we will find ways to support the infrastructure needed for a prosperous future.”
Zuckerman explained that his first task force would focus on the rural economy. Clark Hinsdale, former President of the Vermont Farm Bureau, and Enid Wonnacott, Executive Director of NOFA-VT, have agreed to lead this charge once Zuckerman gets elected. Zuckerman said he would add representatives from forestry, broadband and community renewable energy to be part of the task force.
“I’m proud to be part of this team” said Clark Hinsdale. “I’ve known David for over 20 years and through that time I’ve watched him take the time to build relationships and know farmers from all walks of life. David is committed to a strong agricultural economy and is open to good ideas wherever they come from.”
Vermont farm owners Christa Alexander from Jericho Settlers Farm and Cheryl Devos from Kimball Brook farm both stood with Zuckerman and shared some of the creative approaches they have used to add value to their products and land.
Senator Anthony Pollina commended Senator Zuckerman on this approach, saying, “I have seen time and again how ideas that come with statewide community support move more quickly through the Statehouse and result in stronger legislation.”
Zuckerman said he would announce future task forces in the coming months.
