BURLINGTON, VT – Senator David Zuckerman has been a leader and outspoken advocate on environmental issues over the last two decades. Today he received recognition for this work from Bill McKibben who endorsed his campaign for Lt. Governor of Vermont.
“I’ve known David Zuckerman a long time,” said McKibben, “and I’ve always known him to exemplify what’s very best about citizen politics. He has been a champion on every issue that matters to Vermont’s environment.”
Zuckerman’s roots as an environmentalist are deep. He was raised with a sense of “Yankee” frugality, recycling anything that couldn’t be used. As a young adult a hike of the entire Appalachian trail cemented his desire to preserve our great land for future generations to enjoy. Zuckerman, an organic farmer and small business owner, experiences the impacts of climate change every day; extreme weather events are making food production less reliable, less secure, and ultimately more expensive.
“My love of the land and my desire to protect it make today’s announcement especially personal to me,” said Zuckerman. “Bill McKibben is respected throughout the world as an expert on climate change. He has sounded the alarm and worked tirelessly to build an effective grassroots response. In Vermont, Bill and I have collaborated on pushing to divest from fossil fuels, build more renewable energy, expand sustainable food production, and more.”
“Vermont’s citizen legislature has historically been well represented by farmers, as it should be,” said McKibben. “There’s no job more results-oriented, more connected to day-in day-out reality, and less tolerant of excuses. Dave will be as good a steward of our special state as he’s been of his crops, and Vermont will be much the better for his hand at the plow.”
