BURLINGTON, VT – As Vermont and the country prepare to celebrate Earth Day one of the candidates for Lieutenant Governor will have the chance to meet the family of a noble laureate and environmental hero. State Senator David Zuckerman is an organic farmer with a deep appreciation for the need to respect and honor our valuable natural resources. Saturday night Senator Zuckerman has been invited to introduce Karenna Gore, eldest daughter of vice-president Al Gore, at Southern Vermont College.
“I am excited to spend some time with Karenna Gore and learn about her organization, The Center for Earth Ethics,” said Zuckerman. “I applaud her work connecting visionaries to address some of our most challenging climate issues.”
Zuckerman describes two books that formed his beliefs about our food, resources and development, and the future of our planet. The first was The End of Nature (1989) by Vermont’s own Bill McKibben, a long-time friend and endorser of Zuckerman’s campaign for Lieutenant Governor. The second was The Earth in Balance (1992) by Al Gore.
“Al Gore was the first high-level politician I heard talking about climate issues,” said Zuckerman. “He articulated links between the environment and social justice, challenged me to think about a culture of consumerism and its impacts, and instilled a deep respect for the connection between nature and all living beings.”
Karenna Gore will be speaking at Southern Vermont College at 6:00 on Saturday, April 23, 2016. She will also be participating in Bennington’s All Species Day. More information can be found here.
