BURLINGTON, VT – One of the candidates running for Lieutenant Governor keeps adding more and more endorsements. Today, former Lieutenant Governor Doug Racine, the last Democrat to hold that office, threw his support behind Senator David Zuckerman. Doug Racine has also spent time serving Chittenden County in the State Senate. More recently he was Secretary of Human Services in the Shumlin administration.

“This year Vermont is seeing a lot of turnover in top positions of State government and legislative leadership. I want someone with progressive values and proven leadership on social and economic justice issues to fill that void and Senator Zuckerman fits that description,” said Racine.

“Doug’s endorsement means so much to me,” said Zuckerman. “He became Lieutenant Governor in 1997, the same year I was sworn in as a Representative. His leadership on many issues that strengthen working families and help low income Vermonters is something I have always admired and respected.”

In making his endorsement Racine pointed to Zuckerman’s long legislative career. “David Zuckerman has a consistent record spanning 20 years. He has earned the respect of his colleagues and he has an innate understanding of how to advance issues in Montpelier,” said Racine. “These assets will prove very valuable and make him a great choice for Lieutenant Governor.”

Throughout his career Zuckerman has championed issues important to working Vermonters. He has sponsored legislation to raise the minimum wage, provide universal health care to all Vermonters, provide paid sick days to every worker, and support the rights of workers during contract negotiations. As a Representative Zuckerman received the Vermont Children’s Forum legislative leadership award in 2002 for working on behalf of Vermont’s children.

Zuckerman is currently completing his 4th year as a Senator representing Chittenden County. He is the Vice Chair of the committee on Agriculture and a member of the Education committee. Previously he served for 14 years in the Vermont House. He served on the Natural Resources and Energy Committee for six years, Agriculture committee for six years (including four as the Chair), and two years on the Ways and Means Committee.
